Témoin (Witness)

Shows - installations

A choreographer trained in hip-hop dance, Saïdo Lehlouh works on synergies between individuals and the group, in an effervescent piece for 20 dancers.

Enhancing the presence, stories, and individual styles within the group, acting as a benevolent witness to those who compose and change it, is the thread that Saïdo Lehlouh has been following for years with a piece based on research that has taken many different forms. Now embodied by 20 performers of various ages and backgrounds, most of them self-taught, who are pacing a stage bathed in opaque light, Témoin pays sincere attention to each person’s journey and to the dances of the margins, whose traces emerge vividly in vibrant solos and duets. Set to a soundtrack that pays tribute to the heyday of 1990s hip-hop, the piece plays on the back-and-forth between individual performances and improvisations and the fluctuating movements of the group, in an atmosphere of listening and emulation. It is an invigorating and incisive way to pay tribute to the richly diverse history of hip-hop.
