Suites dansées, un récit­al de musique et de danse is a sin­gu­lar object, a dif­fer­ent listen­ing exper­i­ence, a moment of sharing…

On stage, Chris­tophe Rous­set and Alban Richard, musi­cian and cho­reo­graph­er, give a recit­al of dance suites from the sev­en­teenth and eight­eenth cen­tury harp­si­chord repertoire.
In apply­ing move­ment and images to the primar­ily abstract rep­er­toire of the harp­si­chord, the duo embarked on an unpre­ced­en­ted and dar­ing exper­i­ment: Alban Richard, alone on stage, immerses him­self in the sound, style and rhythms of the instru­ment to give free rein to his invention.
His flu­id and, highly per­son­al lan­guage is inspired by the sound and impulses pro­duced by the harp­si­chord­ist, who, in turn, is cap­tiv­ated by his movements.

To inject vital­ity and risk into this rela­tion­ship between music and dance, each recit­al is based on a con­stantly mod­i­fied pro­gramme. Chris­tophe Rous­set chooses the music­al works at the last moment and Alban Richard devel­ops a dance per­form­ance through impro­visa­tion and instant com­pos­i­tion dur­ing the recit­al. Each con­cert is unique. The audi­ence, placed in close prox­im­ity to the artists, shares in the intim­acy of the pro­cess as it unfolds.

    « A l’origine, le récital s’écoute, laissant place à l’imagination vagabonde, malgré le plateau statique sur lequel tout se joue. Mais lorsqu’un musicien et un chorégraphe unissent leurs talents respectifs, l’enchaînement prend un autre tour, inattendu.
    Particulièrement sensible à la musique, le chorégraphe Alban Richard s’associe à Christophe Rousset, star du baroque français, le temps d’une rencontre hybride où l’un danse pendant que l’autre donne l’impulsion de mouvement.

    Improvisation. La force de ce duo, qui a été vu pour la première fois en mars 2015 à la Philharmonie de Paris, réside non pas dans son développement parfaitement millimétré, mais dans le choix providentiel. À chaque représentation, le musicien change de partition, créant la surprise et engendrant un jeu d’improvisation de son partenaire scénique, dont la danse éphémère s’inscrit dans une volonté d’unicité.
    Pour cette fable articulée, le troisième protagoniste que constitue le clavecin ne livre pas tout au hasard. Son timbre singulier, modulé à l’envi par celui qui enjoué, permet grandiloquence ou intimité. »
